We bet on the song
Music videos are the hardest thing to do cheaply, because every frame has to earn its place twice — once as picture, and once as story. We had one song, two days, and a singer nobody had heard of yet.
What this was for
To show that Bizbio does creative, narrative work — not only interviews and corporate films — and that we will take a real swing on material we believe in.
The story, as we wrote it at the time
Some projects you take because the client is big. This one we took because the song was good.
A young singer came to us with “Look Into My Eyes” — her song, her words — and we all fell in love with it on the first listen. She was not famous. She was not signed. There was no reason on paper to clear two shoot days for her. We did it anyway, because the song had the thing you cannot manufacture, and we wanted to be the ones who put pictures to it.
It is a love story, so we shot it like one.
The first day was in Port Stanley — a sunrise performance on the beach, the pier, the water. Performance and memory sequences, the kind that give a song depth and let the story breathe instead of just sitting still while somebody sings. The sun did what we needed it to do and the place carried the rest of it.
The second day was at Elmhurst Inn & Spa, and it ran past fourteen hours. That was the story arc — the interior world of the song, the rooms, the candles. Every clip we needed to fulfil her vision for it came out of that day. When we called it, we had the whole thing.
It takes more people than it looks like. Derek Lamoureux shot it. Ilea Bakker assisted. Rachelle Gatschene did hair and make-up through Essence Salon. Olimpia and Adrian and their team built the sets and found every prop. Sebastian Cristancho performed in it and then edited the finished film; Matt Preston shot stills. A small crew, a long day, and nobody phoning it in.
The song came out to the world on her own channel. We do not claim any of that success — it is hers. What we can say is that we saw it coming before anyone else did, and we are proud of every frame we gave it.
That is the part of this work we like best. Not the corporate job that pays for the year — the one where you get to bet on a song.
The films
The film is published on the artist’s own channel.
